The creation of a welcoming, vibrant, and diverse downtown
district is being led Main Street Atlantic City (MSAC),
the City's nationally recognized downtown revitalization
and management organization. The focus of MSAC's
efforts is the historic core commercial district and
government center-- the 15-block area along Atlantic
Avenue, from Michigan Avenue to Massachusetts Avenue.
This commercial and residential corridor is home to
more than 150 local businesses that proudly represent
this ethnically rich community!
MSAC enlisted the professional planning and design
firm of Karabashian Eddington Planning Group (KEPG)
to lead a team of experts to explore the current and
potential uses of downtown. With the input of a variety
of community stakeholders, KEPG developed the vision,
the plan, and the implementation strategy for the Downtown
District in Atlantic City. MSAC, in close coordination
with the City of Atlantic City and other key agencies,
will facilitate the implementation of the Plan over
the next several years.
The final Visioning & Downtown Revitalization Plan
was completed in August 2007 and includes:
1.) Specific recommendations for physical improvements
2.) Identification of new commercial and residential
uses for existing buildings
3.) A Downtown Housing strategy to convert empty upper
floors into apartment units
4.) A tenant recruitment plan to attract new businesses
to the Downtown District
5.) A brand identity for the area that reflects the
new viability
6.) A marketing strategy to attract new investment to
the area
